"As I understand Jeroen's work, it is an Architecture of tactile imagination linked to emotion and a desire to find a place of tranquillity within the poetic space of being aware."
In my practice I search for and create an open ended narrative that does not follow any predetermined pathways. Rather I hope for my work to grow organically. It can be that one series of work is loud in colour and tries to find imagery that looks at group dynamics or political, social and cultural issues where another series is quiet and muted talking about the vulnerability of the human body, the self or the charged content of a landscape. They are all connected through the multitude of narratives that will be projected upon them by the viewer even-though this diversity of interpretations might create confusion. Allowing myself different approaches in execution, intensity and visual language stimulates and creates opportunities for unexpected departures from a core personality and allows for a questioning of everything, most of all my own beliefs and convictions. My practice is one of trial and error, openness and curiosity in which emotions, vulnerability as well as transformation is reflected. As a painter I am very much intrigued by the way materials can be transformed and this shifting from one state to another is becoming more pronounced through my renewed interest in alchemy. By using narratives that find their origins in a shared world and that are in itself confusing I hope to connect on a deeper level with others and stimulate transformation and curiosity outside of the personal accepted understanding of what reality is.
